Searching Cases by Name
Start with the official Washington Courts Case Search and accept its terms. Pick a court level before typing anything. District and Municipal, Superior, or Appellate are the choices. Chelan Superior cases use the county Superior Court selection. A misdemeanor, infraction, small claim, protection order, or city-routed matter belongs to the limited-court branch. The county directory lets you confirm which court is listed.
- Select the court level that matches the case type.
- Choose name search and enter the first and last name as accurately as possible.
- Narrow the result with Chelan County, a court, case type, and filing year.
- Complete the verification challenge when it appears.
- Compare case number, court, file date, case type, and party role before opening a result.
A common name can pull up many records at once. The name alone never proves which result is the right case, so check the court, the file date, and the party role before trusting a hit.

Chelan County Case Search Decision Tree
Which court holds the record follows the case type. Felony, major civil, domestic, probate, guardianship, adoption, parentage, mental-health, dependency, and juvenile matters generally sit in Superior Court with the County Clerk. Misdemeanor, gross misdemeanor, criminal traffic, infraction, small claim, lower-value civil, protection-order, and city-routed matters sit in District Court and its clerk.
Once the statewide index points you somewhere, confirm a Superior case in Odyssey. District Court works through the state limited-court case-number route or an available JIS or participating Tyler route. If the case never appears, call the responsible clerk or use the courthouse public-access system. Follow the case itself, not just the city named in a citation.

Chelan Superior Odyssey Case Search
Odyssey Portal is the local route into Chelan Superior Court case information. Smart Search takes a record number or a name typed in “Last, First Middle” order. Capitalization does not matter. An asterisk works as a wildcard. Advanced filters narrow by location, date, category, case type, status, judicial officer, attorney, party, and file-date range. The portal's own page shows Smart Search, Search Hearings, and Judgment Search. Access controls govern each function.

Each Odyssey tab does one job. Smart Search locates case information, Search Hearings finds settings, and Judgment Search is a distinct function. A document tab or marker still promises nothing about a free public image.
What a Case Search Returns
Think of a result as a summary, not a file. A typical Chelan County case search return lists the case number, court, file date, case type, party names and roles, a charge or claim label, event dates, settings, status, disposition, and a document-access marker. Limited-court results often place upcoming appearances near the top. Detailed case activity sits below.
| Case number | The stable locator for searches and clerk requests. |
|---|---|
| Court and location | Superior, District, city-routed, appellate, or another court unit. |
| Case type | Criminal, civil, domestic, probate, infraction, small claim, or other category. |
| Parties and roles | Plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, state, attorney, or participant. |
| Activity | Dated filings, actions, register entries, and document labels. |
| Setting | Date, time, courtroom, officer, proceeding type, and status when shown. |
| Disposition and status | Outcome labels and open, closed, pending, stayed, or restricted state. |
Read the labels carefully. A charge is not a conviction, and a claim is not a judgment. For a decisive outcome, confirm through the signed court document.
Chelan Case Search Update Limits
The statewide site says data is generally updated within 24 hours. It also warns that docket, judgment, document-link, and case-status information can be inaccurate or display incorrectly. Daily updates are not live courtroom control. A late setting change may show up first in a court notice or the clerk system. Verify anything time-sensitive.
Search rule: use the portal to locate the case, then use the originating Chelan County court to verify a time-sensitive setting or official result.
A missing link does not prove the filed paper is sealed. Often the portal simply exposes index data but not the image for that county or user role.
Statewide vs County Case Search
Each tool covers a different slice of the lookup. The statewide search gives broad index coverage across Washington courts, while Odyssey digs deeper into Chelan Superior case information and may expose documents based on role and county settings. The courthouse terminal offers another local path. JIS-Link is a paid, display-only system with no filed documents at all.
| Search channel | Coverage | Best use | Key limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Washington Courts Case Search | Statewide index | Find court and case number | Not the official record |
| Odyssey Portal | Chelan Superior and participating Superior courts | Case detail, events, hearings, available documents | Documents vary by role and county |
| Clerk public terminal | Chelan Superior public records | Inspect local images and older records | In-person access |
| JIS-Link | Washington JIS inquiry | Paid display-only research | No filed documents |
TrueFiling handles the filing side, not the search side. It delivers paperwork to Chelan County Superior Court, and it does not serve as a free public docket for case lookup.
Older Chelan County Case Searches
Old records live at the courthouse. The County Clerk's public computers offer free, first-come access to most public documents filed since 1900. Search by name or case number. Computer images generally cover filings from 1996 forward. Older or non-online material may involve microfiche or the Washington State Archives. The official clerk terminal instructions explain how the terminal search works.

The terminal can resolve an online gap. Record category and statutory restrictions still control public access.
Chelan County Case Search Fallbacks
A Chelan County case search can still mislead. If the status looks off or a case number turns up nothing, confirm the court level. Then try again with the full number. Superior Court cases belong in Odyssey; District Court matters need the limited-court view. Some sealed cases keep an index entry while hiding the contents. A closed JIS case may also sit in archive. The court must restore it before anyone can answer questions about it.
For Superior Court records, the Chelan County Clerk page is the working hub. Calendars, forms, fees, e-filing, subscriber access, and audio requests are all linked there.

District Court cases follow a different route. Call the District Court Clerk and ask for the case number, the docket, or the exact filed document, and say up front whether a plain or certified copy is what you need.
Access and Restricted Cases
Public access has limits. Chelan County attachments are not all open just because a case is. General Rule 15 governs sealed and redacted records. Family law, protection orders, guardianship, health, therapeutic, and confidential-source documents get special handling. General Rule 22 governs it. Juvenile and adoption files carry statutory limits of their own. Even in an open case, personal identifiers may be masked.
Sealed is not the same as erased. The case number and index can stay public. The content stays blocked. So a case search can show only scraps of data. Ask the clerk which it is: archived, restricted, redacted, sealed, or simply not online. Partial permission to view an index does not grant access to the rest. Anyone seeking restricted access has to follow the court's process for it.
